Though this entire site is about Marcy's journey with an ALS diagnosis, this page is a brief summary of our journey thus far.

Marcy is a 42-year-old child of God and mother of 16-year-old Matthew and 11-year-old Darcy. After years of working in marketing, she followed her lifelong dream of helping animals by starting Happy Tales Humane animal shelter in 1996. After running the shelter out of her home for the first 4 years, she spearheaded the building of the shelter at The Factory in Franklin.

Always an avid runner, four years ago Marcy won or placed in her age group for every 5K race she entered. She noticed a muscle twitch in her right leg in the Spring of 2000 which eventually led to a diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in August, 2000.

After only 3 years, Marcy was quadriplegic and on a ventilator at home. Her mind is as active and sharp as it has ever been and she is still the loving, caring person that wants to keep giving to this community.

Her husband, Rob, left his job in 2003 to become Marcy's caregiver. They now live on the love of family and friends.
