Update  -  @ 05:55 am
Marcy didn't seem as feverish yesterday and didn't need much suctioning, but about noon said she hurt all over and asked for Oxycodone. She asked for Oxycodone at bedtime last night, too.

Kara was still sick so I took care of Marcy while doing things around the house. Home health came to change her dressing and Gretel brought dinner and visited for a few minutes.

Darcy stayed home with us and watched TV and played Wii. Darcy also watched Marcy for about 45 minutes so I could ride to the bank, post office, and Publix.

Matt worked from 11-7 then went to a movie and was home at 11:30. He is still planning on driving cross country beginning Tuesday. Tyler, a friend who joined the Navy right out of high school, has been given a car by his father and needs to drive it to San Diego. Matt is riding out with him to keep him company and do some sightseeing. Matt scheduled an appointment with a school counselor to discuss results of his personality testing and possible career paths. He scheduled the appointment for the day after his return. I called yesterday to change the appointment to this morning, thinking that he'll have spare time to think in the car on the trip.

Marcy seemed more feverish yesterday, asking for her blanket to be off and on frequently. She didn't need suctioning like the day before but seemed to feel worse. She asked for Valium about 6:30 pm but only asked for Oxycodone at bedtime. Last night she said she was full and didn't want any juice. That is very unusual for her, but it has happened before.

Kara called in sick yesterday so we stayed home and watched movies yesterday. I tried to program her speech synthesizer to control the TV but had the same problem I had before - it just doesn't learn the remote control codes.

Matt and Darcy went to The Factory together to make ceramic projects for Marcy, have ice cream, and see if they had any kittens for Darcy to foster. They didn't have any kittens for Darcy.

Matt was home for supper then went to a concert in Nashville and was home about 1.

Marcy went out for a few hours yesterday but needed suctioning 3 times while out and wasn't feeling great. Yesterday morning we received sputum culture results showing pathogenic bacteria sensitive to Levaquin (oral antibiotic) so we started on that yesterday morning. She asked for Oxycodone only at bedtime.

We (Marcy, Darcy, Cricket, Sunny, and I) went to Garland & Gretel's house to swim in their pool late yesterday afternoon. Gretel was home and visited with us. Darcy found a baby frog in the pool and played with him much of the time. I got in the water for a few minutes. The weather was cool for the last day of June, so Marcy was very comfortable in the shade by the pool. We came straight home.

Before Garland's I called Troy and together we got Marcy's text messaging running. She can now send text messages to any of our cell phones: ask us to come home, come to dinner, etc.

Matt worked yesterday from 2-10 then hung out with friends until 11:30.

Marcy seems better to me. Though she wanted to go to church yesterday, she was glad she rested and plans to go out today. She asked for Oxycodone at bedtime (in addition to the one she got at 6 am yesterday.)

I slept in between giving medicines and getting the kids up and ready for church yesterday morning and felt really well rested. I cleaned in the house yesterday, including the cages and sun room. I cooked dinner and made home made ice cream. I also added functions to Marcy's loaner Tobii. She seems to be working it more - playing games and exploring the Internet a little.

I failed to mention in yesterday's post that the Men of Acts came from Father's House church Saturday to paint and do some finishing touches on the work they did a few weeks ago. Everything looks a little brighter around the house.

Darcy went to ClearView church with Sarah and her family. Matt went to church with Paige. Darcy stayed home with us yesterday, watching movies and making crafts. Matt hung out with friends and Paige after church, came home for supper, then went back out with friends until midnight.

Marcy still isn't feeling good but we made it out yesterday. Marcy was in her chair from 1:30-7:30 and didn't need suctioning at all. Yesterday she said she wanted to go to church today but last night said maybe she shouldn't push her body that hard. She asked for Oxycodone at bedtime and has already asked for one this morning with her 6 am meds.

We (Marcy, Darcy, Cricket, and I) went to Nashville for the monthly flea market there. Marcy was looking for the stained glass maker we saw there a couple of years ago. She wants something to diffuse sunlight that comes in above the door from the kitchen to the deck. But we didn't see a stained glass maker there yesterday. We did, however, find another GoJi juice supplier - one of Marcy's supplements. And Darcy bought some costume jewelry.

We got Darcy home in time for her 6 pm baby sitting job across the street. She wasn't home until 11 last night.

Matt was with friends all day yesterday and made it home about 12:30.

Daily Prayer for Marcy: Quick recovery from outing yesterday. Total relief from pain and discomfort.

Marcy still isn't feeling great, but is so tough and had a great day yesterday.

I posted yesterday morning that Darcy and I were scheduled to go to the Hannah Montana movie set from 5-6 pm yesterday and Kara was planning on staying late and being late to a paying gig. Darcy was so excited. We were walking out the door at 4:30 when assistants called to say Thursday night's shooting ran late, so they were starting late yesterday. There wouldn't be anyone or anything to see until 6:15.

It looked for a few minutes like we weren't going at all. Then Marcy blinked that she would go and she and I would sit in the car. We went and stayed for 3 hours. We didn't sit in the car and had a great time. Click here to see the pictures and the story.

Marcy was tired last night, but still wants to go out today.

Matt worked yesterday from 2-9 then hung out with friends and Paige.

Daily Prayer for Marcy: Strength for outing today. Total relief from pain and discomfort.

Update  -  @ 06:55 am
Marcy seemed some better yesterday and wasn't nearly as tired as I thought she would be. Her preliminary culture results showed a gram negative rod in both her urine and sputum. Though this doesn't tell us the exact bacteria or appropriate antibiotics, it tells us the family so Dr. Reid prescribed 3 days of IV Ceftazadine which fights many gram negative rod bacteria. She's had It before so there is no fear of reaction. It arrived yesterday afternoon, prescribed for 3 times a day, she got 2 doses yesterday but Marcy seemed to be better before getting the medicine.

Kara was here yesterday. I washed Marcy's hair before leaving with Darcy for the UPS store to ship an item that sold on eBay, to Publix for prescription refill for Marcy, to the library to return a book for Darcy and let her pick out 2 new books, and to Costco for ice cream and vegetables for juicing.

Before riding with me, Darcy went to work at the club house yesterday morning. While there, she got the call from Miley Cyrus' people saying we could come to the movie set today (Friday) afternoon. They were to call back last night with exact time and location. They finally called about 9 last night. We (Darcy and I) are scheduled to be there late this afternoon and stay for an hour. Marcy wasn't sure she would feel up to going, is looking forward to going out tomorrow, and didn't know if she could go out two days in a row. I asked and the location is not wheelchair friendly at all, so that necessitates her staying home. Kara was already scheduled to work today and has a gig tonight, but said she would stay late enough for us to go. Darcy is very excited and Marcy is very happy for her.

Matt was up on his own at 7 yesterday (morning!) and worked 8-3. He then did online personality tests to help him determine what careers might be good for him. He left about 6:30 to hang out with friends and was home at 11:30 last night.

Yesterday morning Marcy approved my column for this week.

We made it out yesterday and that always perks Marcy up. She was in her chair from about 1-7. She needed suctioning once and asked for Oxycodone at bedtime. Before we left, we received preliminary urinalysis results showing she has a very strong urinary tract infection. We won't know the species of bacteria (or start treating) until today or tomorrow.

We (Marcy, Darcy, Cricket, and I) went to Shoe Carnival for sandals for Darcy, PetSmart for hermit crab sand, Kohl's to exchange a vacuum cleaner, and Wal-Mart for groceries.

We had a fun day. Before leaving I told Marcy we didn't have to go if she didn't feel up to it. Last night Marcy blinked "thank you for taking me" so I think it meant a lot to her.

Darcy kept her phone with her but no word from Miley's peeps. When we got home, she emailed Tish again. I finally got this picture from her phone so I could put it in yesterday's email. The bed in the background has the comforter mentioned in yesterday's update. If you didn't get yesterday's email, you're not on our list. Please email me and I'll add you.

Matt worked from 2-9 then went to Paige's until he came home at 11:30.

Update  -  @ 06:40 am
Marcy still felt bad yesterday. Home health came and drew samples for culture. Marcy asked for Oxycodone at bedtime. Even feeling as bad as she does, she wants to go to Wal-Mart today.

Kara was here yesterday to care for Marcy. I rode with Garland into Nashville to buy a new battery for Darcy's electric scooter. She uses it to go to work at the clubhouse and has had to push it halfway home the last 4 or 5 days.

At the risk of sounding like a teenage girl, more Miley Cyrus news: Her "peeps" haven't called yet but yesterday Darcy read my update from Monday and took away my Father of the Day award.

First, I misspelled Miley's name. Second, Miley didn't introduce Lucas to Darcy, he had his & Miley's names written on his shoes. ("They were Converse shoes. Everybody writes on the white toe of Converse shoes. They've done that forever. It means either they are boyfriend and girlfriend or they are best friends. Duh, Dad.") Third, I left out one of the best parts of the story. When Darcy caught up to Miley in the Sears store, Miley was looking at the Hannah Montana comforter on the bed on display. She was trying to talk her Mom into letting her buy it for herself.

Darcy made stuffed animals yesterday from socks and work gloves. She also made movies with Jo. And we called Marcy's parents last night to see if Darcy could come visit them in Florida this Summer. They had invited her and offered her a ticket to fly down. They will work on getting the ticket for her.

Matt went to his friend Michael's yesterday afternoon and last night they went to a concert in Nashville. Matt made it home about midnight.

Marcy slept most of yesterday. She is still feverish and feeling badly. We stopped antibiotics and talked with home health about culturing again today. She asked for Oxycodone about 6:30 last night.

She slept until almost noon. Clayton and Selma from ClearView brought her a new shawl and prayed for her. She went back to sleep about 2:30, I cut grass and showered while listening for her on the monitor. She was awake while we ate. Garland came to pray for her from about 6-7:30 last night.

Darcy made movies with Jo most of yesterday. Tish Cyrus replied to Darcy's email and said someone would call her to tell her a time and place to come to the Hannah Montana movie set. We didn't hear from them yesterday.

Matt went to lunch with Paige yesterday, worked from 1-9:30, then went to Paige's house and was home about 11:30.

Outing  -  @ 09:39 am
We went out yesterday - Marcy was in her chair from about 1:30-7:30 and needed suctioning twice while out. By the time we got home Marcy blinked, "I feel very sick." She thought/thinks it is the Vancomycin so we discontinued that. And the rash on her right arm came back strong last night - I saw it while putting her in bed, she asked me to scratch it, then I put Cortisone on it.

We (Marcy, Darcy, Cricket, and I) went to the mall for shoes for Darcy. She had seen a sale ad and wanted to see what they had. We entered the mall through the food court so Darcy could have a slice of S'barro pizza and to give Paige (working at Dairy Queen) a gardenia that Marcy asked us to pick for Paige. Darcy also returned some things at Claire's.

That's when I received the "Father of the Day" award for yesterday:

While at Claire's, Marcy and Darcy were looking at the wall of Hannah Montana merchandise. I was looking out the door at people passing by. A trio (mom, teen boy, and teen girl) passed by and I heard the girl say something. I got Darcy's attention and told her, "If that girl is not Mylie Cyrus, she looks and sounds just like her."

The trio had already passed Claire's, but Darcy walked quickly ahead of us, stalking them into Sears, looking to see if it was her. By the time we caught up with them, Darcy was posing for a picture with Mylie Cyrus. I introduced our family to the mom - Tish Cyrus - and told her of the time Billy Ray came up to us and introduced himself to us after a movie at our theater. Tish said she remembered him telling her about Cricket. She told Darcy she should come by the movie set sometime and gave Darcy her email address. Darcy also got Mylie's autograph.

The boy sat looking bored while we talked and Darcy was star struck. Darcy later told me Mylie introduced him as Lucas. I Googled him this morning and it was Lucas Till - Mylie's love interest in the movie they are shooting now - a new actor.

Darcy was actually trembling for 15 minutes after the meeting and couldn't wait to get home to email Tish to find out when and where she should go to visit the set.

But we didn't find any shoes at the mall.

From there we went to Nolensville to visit Ritt and Margi - the friends we made last Wednesday - at their house. I had promised them some of Barry's spray when our new shipment arrived and it came in Friday. They also wanted another of Marcy's old wheelchairs, so we delivered that as well. We stayed and had a nice visit there.

Update  -  @ 08:24 am
Marcy felt worse yesterday - she felt feverish and slept much of the day and asked for Oxycodone at 10 pm and at bedtime (2 am.) She didn't have any breathing episodes but just before bed told me to turn down the vent settings. But the vent settings were normal - she has never asked me to turn down vent settings when they were normal, only after I have turned them up when she has had trouble breathing. We left them where they were and she seemed to sleep OK.

The Tobii loaner speech synthesizer arrived as promised yesterday. I set that up for Marcy last night. She used only the Tobii for sleeping last night, today we'll see how much she wants to use it otherwise.

Kara was here yesterday to care for her for 8 hours. Kara got here at 8:30 to allow me to go with Matt to an all-morning orientation at the Community College down the street from us. The session ended with Matt registering for Fall classes. Even though he can only get a 2 year degree here, his classes can transfer to a 4 year school. He registered as an English Literature major. But the school offers free Myers-Briggs (and other) personality testing which we plan to use to help him decide what he might want to do.

After school, Matt and I went to see the new Get Smart movie. I didn't expect to like it but I did. They didn't try to duplicate the TV series (I didn't think they could) but had enough throw backs to the old series to make it fun.

Darcy made it home from the beach church camp about 10 last night. She had a great time and told us her stories of the beach, water park, bunk beds, and food. She was happy to see us and the pets. Also, Darcy wrote a thank you note to President Bush (see 3/27/08 post) for her stimulus package money and received an envelope from the White House while she was gone. We told her about it on the phone this week and she was very excited and felt very special. But when she opened and read it last night, even she could tell it was a form letter. It was nice enough but could have been a reply to anything - even a complaint. I agreed with Darcy that the 8 x 10 picture of the president included looked a little goofy. But Darcy did like the 8 x 10 picture of Barney, the first dog.

Matt went to Paige's after supper and made it home about 12:30.

Marcy was about the same yesterday - a little better than earlier this week. No breathing episodes and only asked for Oxycodone at bedtime.

Mary (the speech therapist) came by to pick up the borrowed speech synthesizer that didn't test well last weekend. Mary was upset that Tobii hadn't called to report on progress on the device they are repairing for us. Within 5 minutes of Mary's leaving our house the Tobii rep called to say they have started on Marcy's Tobii and they will overnight a loaner for Marcy to use until 6/29 when, hopefully, they will be finished.

I watched movies with Marcy yesterday while posting items on eBay and the classifieds. ebay home page at http://everydayisprecious.com/ebay/

Jake and Lois brought dinner last night and visited for a little while. They admired Marcy's gardenias on the way in - they are just starting to bloom. Marcy insisted they take a couple to float in a bowl at their house.

Matt woke about 11 and worked from 2-9 before going to Paige's and returning home about 11.

Darcy called last night. She went to a water park Wednesday and was too tired to call Wednesday night. She is having fun but returns home tonight.

Yesterday morning Marcy approved my column for this week.

Update  -  @ 07:42 am
Marcy seemed to feel better yesterday, probably encouraged by our visitors yesterday. She did not have any breathing episodes and did not ask for Oxycodone all day.

Kara was here to care for her. I had lunch with my friend Steve, then went to the bank and Costco for lunch items for Matt.

While I was out, Stephanie came for her monthly visit from TennCare but I made it home for most of the visitiors. Someone came to pick up the boy's bike we sold via classifieds, someone else to pick up the weight bench sold via eBay, but the folks who picked up the shower chair stayed for a while:

Margi, Ritt, and Remmy called a couple of weeks ago about the shower chair we had in the classifieds, but our calendars didn't come together until yesterday. Ritt, in his early 20"s, was in an accident a couple of years ago, was in a coma for months, suffered a spinal cord injury, and has no feeling or movement below his chest. His Mom, Margi, is his primary caregiver and Remmy is a paid caregiver that has become part of their family.

They are beautiful people and strong Christians who know that it is a miracle that any of us are here, but especially Ritt after the accident he survived. Our friend Gretel brought dinner while they were here and Margi suggested we pray over Marcy while Gretel was here. Each of us prayed in turn and it was moving and powerful. I think they ended up staying over 2 hours, talking and praying, though it seemed much shorter. Ritt even played my guitar a little for Marcy.

A couple of weeks ago, when I told Marcy of their situation, she told me she wanted to give Margi the shower chair. So did I, so I told Margi that before they came. After their visit, on their way out, I pulled the shower chair from the garage and helped them load it in their van. Ritt was very excited about being able to take a real shower again. We promised to pray for each other and to get together again soon.

After they left, I found a check for the amount we had advertised. Margi had written the check before she even saw the chair.

Matt woke yesterday about 11 and worked from 2-9 pm, so he missed all the visits. He went to Paige's from work and was home about 11:30.

No word from Darcy in Florida yesterday.

Marcy is still feeling bad and had another breathing episode about 6 last night. I turned up the ventilator for a few hours and she seemed better. She asked for Valium during the episode and Oxycodone at bedtime. Bedtime was 2 am, the speech synthesizer miscued 3 times before 2:30, so she asked me to unplug it.

We stayed home yesterday.

Matt came downstairs about 11:30 am yesterday and left to go with friends to gather and sell some scrap metal that Staples was throwing out. He wore his work clothes when he left and worked from 2-9. He said he came straight home, arriving about 10.

Darcy called about 11 last night. She went to the beach yesterday, likes the people she's with, made a new friend, and didn't sound quite as homesick.

Update  -  @ 07:18 am
Marcy felt about the same yesterday but had no breathing episodes. She didn't ask for Oxycodone until bedtime.

Kara was here yesterday. I washed Marcy's hair so Kara could style it. I then gathered and packed 4 packages for items that sold on eBay, took them to UPS and the post office, picked up prescriptions for Marcy, went to the Department of Human Services to file papers to keep TennCare benefits, and went to Wal-Mart and Costco for juicing ingredients.

I made it home early enough to re-pot some flowers for Marcy before Kara had to leave.

I woke Matt yesterday at 9:30 and asked him to do a few things around the house and asked him to do things around the house on a regular basis as he saw them. And we asked him to set his regular curfew to 11 pm to better fit with Marcy's schedule. He went to Publix to fill a prescription for an infected bug bite that was noticed and treated while he was at Bonnaroo. (He said he thinks he got the bite while waiting for friends outside the movie theater.) He worked from 2-9 pm, went straight from work to Paige's house, and was home at 11. He got something to eat, emptied the just-completed dishwasher and put his plate in the empty dishwasher.

Darcy called at 15 minutes after midnight to let us know she made it to Florida safely. The kids are not allowed cell phones, she borrowed one from a leader. She was homesick and tired. I could hear lots of other kids in the background - it was hard for her to go to sleep.

Marcy seemed more tired yesterday and had another, though milder, breathing episode. About 6 pm she asked for Attivan because she felt it coming on, then asked me to turn the ventilator settings up. This seemed to help, she never asked me to use the Ambu bag and asked me to return the vent settings to normal about 1 1/2 hrs later. She asked for Oxycodone with her 6 pm medicines yesterday and when she went to sleep.

I noticed Marcy wasn't using her new speech synthesizer and asked her why. After I tried using it for 1/2 hour, I saw what she was saying - this one is not as smooth as the Tobii (when the Tobii was working.) It is clunky and inaccurate. We went back to her old (thumb activated) speech synthesizer and will try to find out about the Tobii repair.

We stayed in yesterday. I cleaned cages, cut grass, and did small things around the house. Darcy finished her pet sitting duties and packed for her Florida trip. Marcy supervised the packing and even woke enough to remind me this morning to give Darcy her Dramamine. (Darcy left at 8 this morning.)

We called our fathers yesterday, Troy called me, and we celebrated Father's Day here at the house just after supper.

Matt made it home from Bonnaroo about 1:15 this morning.

Marcy seems to feel a little better but needed more suctioning yesterday. She only asked for Oxycodone at bedtime.

We spent much of the day with Mary, Marcy's speech therapist, who brought another speech synthesizer to try. This one also reads her eyes. It seems to be working for Marcy OK, but just OK. We'll see how it goes today. The one Mary brought is a loaner. If Marcy likes it, we'll have to order our own. Mary was here from 1-5 on a Saturday and was very, very helpful.

Between dog walking jaunts, Darcy went to some big blowout sale at Kohl's with her friend Linda. I told Darcy we didn't need any blowouts - she didn't see any humor in that.

No word from Matt at Bonnaroo.

Troy sold a computer for us and it did well, and about half of our eBay items sold, but for way less than we thought. We'll do more eBay items but we'll set higher starting bids. And we're hoping the yard sale 7/26 will be more productive. ebay home page at http://everydayisprecious.com/ebay/

We made it home from the hospital yesterday about 1:30. I don't think Marcy feels any better physically, though she was happy to get home. She has not had any more of the breathing episodes. She asked for Oxycodone at 6 pm and at bedtime last night. She also asked for Cortisol for an itchy rash on her right shoulder and upper arm. The home health nurse first noticed it Tuesday 6/3. The hospital nurses noticed it, too, but it is not bad enough that anyone has wanted to do anything about it. Last night was the first time Marcy asked me to put any medicine on it. We will continue to watch it.

Home health came to the house at 2 to draw a trough for her Vancomycin which she will continue at home along with Tobramycin and Cipro.

Darcy was at home and happy to see us. I think she got a little bored without us. Yesterday and this weekend she is in full pet sitting mode, walking, feeding, and loving on 2 vacationing neighbors' dogs.

Kara was here from 2-5:30 yesterday to fix Marcy's hair and care for her. Once I got Marcy comfortable, I took Darcy to Happy Tales to return the foster kittens. They are old enough to adopt now and Darcy leaves for a 5 day church retreat in Florida Monday morning and won't be able to care for them. She was sad to give them up but found more - four week old kittens with 6 toes being bottle fed - that she wants to foster when she gets back.

While Kara was here I also went to the bank and made it home early enough to shower before she left. Darcy and I would have walked the dogs but it was raining. They didn't complain, they were happy we were home.

We got word yesterday that Father's House church's Men of Acts has secured a location for a yard sale to benefit us. It will be July 26 from 8 am - 4 pm at Fieldstone Park - where the softball fields are in Fieldstone Farms. Items are now being collected and stored until the sale.

Daily Prayer for Marcy: Total relief from pain and discomfort. Rest from hospital outing.
