Home again, home again, jiggety jog
We made it home last night about 7p. The trach change went better than any prior. There was no granulation tissue, no polyp to remove (they never told me they had to do that on all others,) and no cauterization needed. The surgeon said it was so easy that I (Rob) could do it next time - or at least we could try doing it bedside next time. I think Marcy will have lots to say about that before it happens.
Consequently, there was not the volume of blood that needed suctioning from her lungs yesterday as normally happens after the procedure. Marcy was waking and well when she came up from the operating room but went back to sleep and slept until 3p when she woke wanting to go home. Kara was at the hospital yesterday to watch her so I could go home and make juice and care for pets in case we weren't able to go home yesterday. I was back at the hospital before 4p but it took Dr. Reid until 6p to get to the room to sign the paperwork for us to leave. While I was at home they started Zosyn (antibiotic to replace Mirrim) - it is to be given every 6 hours. Home health delivered her next couple of days meds before we got home. She didn't seem feverish at all yesterday or last night.
Pulling in the driveway at 7p and doing all our nightly routine plus unpacking put us 2:30 getting to sleep. Marcy asked for Oxycodone and Benadryl with her sleeping pill last night.
Darcy was home when we got there and is already feeling better. Marcy asked her to start taking Ester-C and it may have headed off a cold. A couple of weeks ago Matt had the congestion he always has after a sleep over and Marcy asked him to start taking Ester-C. He hasn't had congestion since. Marcy started asking for it, too. And I had a scratchy throat one day this week, started Ester-C and it went away without congestion. I don't want to sound like a commercial here, but we believe in it now.
Darcy went to bed about 8 and Matt got home from his Financial Peace University class about 9:30.
The pets were happy to see us last night - well, the dogs went crazy. Cricket had to be in Marcy's lap while she was still in the wheelchair in the garage. And Sunny jumped into my arms. Before I got Marcy out of the wheelchair she asked me to put some catnip down for the cats. So they acted happy for a while, too. Or at least drunk.

Bad day in the hospital
Marcy had a bad day yesterday. The GI came and did the feeding tube change bedside about 9a. The old one came out easier than in the past but the new one wouldn't go in. The doctor sent the nurse to get a smaller tube and while she was gone he pushed and prodded until it finally got in. Marcy had morphine but it still was very painful. Once in, the doc thought it may be in the wrong place so, just to be sure, he ordered and x-ray with contrast to make sure. In the meantime, Marcy could have nothing in the tube and hadn't since midnight. X-ray techs came to the room after a few hours and we heard an hour later that all was OK and Marcy could get her supplements and water.
But she felt feverish and achy all day. She said last night that if she felt that bad, she wouldn't do the trach change today. She thinks the antibiotics were making her sick, so she stopped those yesterday afternoon. She feels a little better this morning and wants to do the trach change. It is scheduled for 10:40a. I'll post tweets (Twitter Updates) today as things happen.
Kara was here at the hospital yesterday while I went home to juice, feed cats, shower, etc. She said Marcy slept while I was gone. I posted some new gift shop items on eBay - you can see the list on our Gift Shop Auction page.
I got to see Darcy at home - she has some sniffles and says everyone at school is sick. With Darcy sick, Marcy says she wants to go home today to be with Darcy. I told her we'll see how quickly she recovers from the procedure, but I'm sure they'll let us go whenever she wants.
Matt was working - I didn't see him yesterday. Darcy went to her O'More Explorers class last night. I haven't heard how that went.

Good night, for the hospital
We made it to the hospital fine yesterday. She got two units of blood last night and though she says she's not feeling any better today, right now (8a) she is wide awake and playing video games on her speech synthesizer. She hasn't done that in several weeks (played games or been this alert this early.) The GI can't do the feeding tube change tomorrow, so the plan is for him to do it bedside this morning, so she has not been allowed to have anything through the feeding tube since midnight. The trach change is still scheduled for tomorrow.
Kara was at the house yesterday to style her hair and help take care of her while I packed. When we left for the hospital, she left for home.
Last night I posted some of the gift shop items on eBay - you can see the list on our Gift Shop Auction page.
Darcy went to her acting class last night. I talked to her this morning and she seemed fine.

Still plan to go to hospital today
Marcy rested again yesterday but didn't sleep. I called Dr. Reid and her sputum sample is growing a bacterium that is only sensitive to sulfa (Bacterim) - we still have some, so I started her back on that yesterday morning. We still list Sulfa as one of her allergies, though she has tolerated it in the last few months.
She seemed some better yesterday. Dr. Reid said they had hospital beds yesterday but to check again this morning before coming to the hospital. I plan to Twitter updates today. Watch them on this page (right column) and/or go to Twitter.com and join (free) to receive updates.
Yesterday I started preparing to go to the hospital, paid bills, finished the laundry, and added items to our Gift Shop preview page.
Matt made it home from his sleep over in time to go to church then stayed home all day. He did homework, played video games, and watched "Dexter" with us last night.
Darcy went to church then to a church lunch at Chili's. She did homework when she got home.

Still some openings in November's Dinner Calendar. Even while Marcy is in the hospital, the kids will be home and still need meals. As I write this, Wednesday night is still open and we plan to be in the hospital.

Another outing postponed
Marcy felt a little better late yesterday after sleeping all day. In spite of feeling bad early yesterday, she had wanted to go see a movie with Matt yesterday afternoon since he was off work. But halfway through getting her ready we both decided it wasn't a good idea. There were no further lab results yesterday - there should be some today. Marcy asked for Phenergan and Benadryl with her sleeping pill last night.
While Marcy slept yesterday, I washed clothes, cleaned the guinea pig cage, and added items to our Gift Shop preview page.
Darcy's soccer rain-out let her catch up on some of her fashion television shows with Marcy on TiVo. Darcy spent the afternoon playing with Jo in our basement and at the park.
Matt left yesterday afternoon to be with friends, was home for supper, picked up the DVD "IronMan" for us to watch last night, then went to a sleep over.
