It's
not all about me. It's not all about Marcy.
We
added a friend to the email list for these notes last week, sending
him all the past notes.
The
next morning he sent me a reply saying that the notes helped him
focus less on the immediate and more on the fact that God is "truly
love and truly eternal." He thanked me for sending the notes
and said that I am the Paul in his life - Paul as in the apostle
Paul.
That
is probably the largest compliment anyone has ever given me, and
probably the least justified.
The
emails about this healing process started out as a way to keep us
from having to repeat ourselves over and over about what we are
going through. They were a convenience mechanism, a way to avoid
having to talk with people, avoid having to share.
They've
turned out to be just the opposite.
They
have allowed us to share in a "safe" way - a way that
makes it difficult for people to hurt us as we share.
By
our sharing first, we have had the great pleasure to allow others
to share with us. From the friend whose blindness was healed through
prayer to the friend whose son was cured of an incurable virus after
being anointed with oil, and many more, their stories are truly
amazing.
I wondered
- why aren't these stories of triumph shouted from the rooftops?
I guess many times they are. I just never took time to listen. And
if I had listened, I probably wouldn't have believed the truth behind
them. I would have found my own explanation and written their explanation
off to imagination, emotion, fanaticism, or just plain kookiness.
I know I have hurt people as they have tried to share with me and
it may have contributed a stifling effect to their sharing the story.
Now
Marcy and I have a story to share, but the story is not about Marcy
and me. And now I know that our friends' stories are not about themselves.
Each story is about all of us, about everyone we see, talk with,
and listen to. The story is there, all we have to do is share.
Think
of us as we drive to the Charlotte doctors Monday. We'll share what
they say when we get back Thursday.
Thanks.
Rob
